Fuck your couch

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I thought I'd thrown away a lot of stuff?

I had not even STARTED. Now that Motty is on board with the cleanout, things are moving fast.

There are still a couple of small repairs to make, and a dozen bags to dump. It's hard to wrap your head around the concept that in a week's time, all you own won't be of any use to you.

Thankfully Motty will help me give out and sell my stuff while I'm not in the country (also because it's pretty hard to sell your stuff when you're still using it!)

9 days till Finland.

Gentlemen we have a date

November 28th.

That is the date in which I have booked my one-way trip to Finland. I have also booked the hostel already, and I am going to meet the lovely Marju and, hopefully, also see a show with her.

This is quite possibly the scariest thing I have ever done in my whole life. Next to this, meeting my father after ten years was a walk in the park.

Now that we have a date....let's start getting things ready, shall we?

No turning back

I just resigned from my apartment.

There is really no turning back, now.

I loved living here, I really did. Despite all its problems (namely the neighbors) I still love this house.

But now it's time to move on.

Future here I come. Are you ready for me?

Ready to rumble?

Remember last week, when I said this?

There's a part of me that keeps telling me it's too early! Maybe it is, but my reasoning is that once things get hectic, I will be glad I already sorted out all my stuff. And besides I don't know when things will become hectic. It might be early, but I'd rather be prepared. I'd rather not forget or lose anything because I'm packing in a hurry.

Well, it turns out I was right in ignoring that part of me, because things have become hectic now.

I have finally realized how futile it was to be looking for another job here with already to prospect of moving there. It's not like I would make some money to leave - there is no making money with temp jobs in Italy, just sort of getting by. Waiting, with or without job, would only mean my money slowly dwindling down to nothing.

Effectively trapping me in this country.

So next week I will be resigning from my apartment and starting the procedures for taking the kitties in another nation. Both have a waiting time of six months, so I'm somewhat covered. I am also gonna start actively and aggressively looking for a job there. Anything, at this point, would be welcome. Just something to get accustomed to the country, make some connections, some friends, learn some language (really, why should I spend 1k euros for a Suomi class here when I can do it for free there, while I'm working?), basically stick my foot in the door.

Everything else can come at a slower pace.

Right now, I need to leave. Because really, there is nothing keeping me here.

The actual getting rid of stuff

The inevitable problem of sorting out your stuff to its barebones is A LOT of trash. Four bags of old clothes, three boxes of VHS, an IKEA bag full of paper, a broken laundry hanger, broken VHS, broken stereo.

On the other hand....

So much stuff

I've been debating for a while how much of my stuff to bring with me.

In the end I decided that I would bring as much as would fit in the cd tower and the living room bookshelf (and also try to bring the bookshelf as well since it's one of those black IKEA Billies with the snowflakes. It's out of production, ugly as sin itself, and I love it to pieces.) Of course I will also have like a box of "this-and-that's" but as far as the voluminous stuff (books, comics...) goes, that's it.

Tervetuloa!

Welcome to our blog. In here we will from now on recount the adventure that is moving to Finland from Italy and the US respectively.

And how a sudden idea can be realized. Because it will. Stay tuned and find out how!
